Pasture Raised Chickens
Our chickens are purchased at day-old and spend their first few weeks in a heated brooder room, protected from the elements but with access to fresh air and sunshine.
At 3-4 weeks of age they are then moved outdoors and with the help of our moveable shelters they enjoy fresh pasture to forage each and every day.
The clean, healthy, stress-free environment means we don’t need to use any antibiotics or other chemical treatments, and without artificial growth promoters our birds grow slower than industrial, factory-farmed chickens.
The birds forage for insects, graze on lush grass and dust bath at will… Basically our chickens get to be chickens!
Rather than restricting our birds to enclosed areas they are completely free ranging, and with the protection of our two merrema livestock guardian dogs they are safe to roam.
Their daily banquet of wild treats is supplemented with quality grain mixes, mineral-rich seaweed meal, calcium, garlic and apple cider vinegar, ensuring our chicken is the best you’ll ever eat!
We care for our small apiary of honey bees using completely natural methods, diligently monitoring hive health and only extracting honey when a surplus exists. We don’t use any chemical treatments or supplement sugar feeds. We use a small number of “Flow” frames to extract, with the remaining frames extracted using simple hand-powered methods. Our honey is left in its pure and natural state and simply passed through a sieve to remove any impurities. Our honey is provided to you just as the bees have made it.
The market garden provides our family with beautiful chemical-free veg, with any surplus offered to the public for sale. Our low till, bio-intentsive methods build soil structure and biodiversity and as our production increases we hope to be able to offer more of this nutrient-rich produce in the future.
Pasture Raised Eggs
Our laying flock is an essential part of the grazing rotation and the birds are provided a fresh patch of pasture every few days. Their diet of grasses and insects is supplemented with a quality grain mix free from any medications which produces a high-quality egg, grown truly free range.
Grass Finished Lamb
Rotation grazing is a key element of our operation with a small flock of dorper sheep constantly on the move throughout our 80 acre property. We do not use any chemical inputs such as toxic wormers or drenches, instead relying on natural alternatives. By keeping our animals moving and resting our pasture we not only optimise growing conditions but are also able to break the parasite lifecycle, significantly reducing infections. Our livestock are also provided with a range of essential minerals to ensure they grow strong and healthy.
